Active Travel

For short trips, switching to cycling, walking or using the bus is better for the environment than using the car. This is called active travel. Active travel reduces carbon and other emissions (and when our buses are eventually all electric reduce this to zero).

55% of all trips in Sudbury are less than 5km or 3 miles. Most of these trips are currently driven by car. To remove carbon and other emissions and reduce some emissions the idea is to choose to walk, cycle or use the bus instead.
This is UK government policy and the policies of almost every political party in the UK.
However whilst walking is possible instead of driving in Sudbury, cycling at present almost all has to be on the road and is considered unsafe for most people.
